What is an alternative to give my dog to eat instead of dog food?

I ran out of dog food and I have an 11 year old golden retriever and I can't get dog food for another 3 more days.

What else can I give him to substitute for a meal? You know something to atleast have in his stomach.

Answer

Knight:
Should have planned accordingly.

Why can't you go out and buy some dog food now?

Anything you may feed her may cause an intestinal upset.

Boiled rice and boiled chicken (without skin) and/or boiled lean ground beef and rice would be the least harmful.

Sophie:
something is wrong with your thinking, your heart and your budgeting if you don't have food for your dog. A responsible pet owner puts their pet along with themself at the top of the list for food (and water) to survive as well as shelter and the rest of the bills then go unpaid.

Ok so now you're stuck and there is no substitute for a meal. Ask your parents, your friends, your neighbors, the church even for dog food. Why can't you go to a neighbor who has a dog and ask them for help?

Tigrillen:
rice and boiled eggs would be a cheap alternative. Also whatever vegetables like boiled carrots, broccoli. Boiled chicken if your budget goes that far.

Most food you will come up with won't be perfectly balanced, but for a few days that won't matter.

Carolynn:
Can you borrow some dog food from a friend? If not, you can cook eggs, give meat and rice. I wouldn't give the dog rice alone, though... add some sort of meat.

Amos:
Scrambled or boiled eggs (2) at least or 4-6 oz. canned tuna, for protein, plus some cooked rice OR 1/2 cup cooked sweet or white potato (with skin) for a carbohydrate. You can add some cooked or steamed: green beans or peas, butter beans (aka lima beans) or cooked spinach - if you have any. The veggies add fiber, anti-oxidents & act as a filler.

JenVT:
Go to your local food shelf or animal shelter and explain the situation or borrow money from a friend. If you can't afford to keep your dog you need to consider rehoming it if this is going to happen on a regular basis

Lakelady:
Scrambled eggs and oatmeal. Oatmeal with beef broth, They'll also eat potaoes and most dogs will eat a rock if it has cheese on it.

ShadoePaw:
Meat and eggs mixed with pasta to bulk it up if you don't have enough meat.
Be sure to get some food ASAP.

Sanafaye:
Steamed white rice is healthy for them and it keeps them full, you can also give him any unsalted or pepper meats, eggs are also fine just not raw.

Chicken works in a pinch
