Laxatone giving cat extremely bad diarrhea?!?

Ask: Took my cat in to the vet last week as she was licking bald spots (which she s done before) that are also causing hairballs from the overlicking. Vet believes its allergies, prescribes steroids to help and a spray to relieve the itching.

Both the steroids and the sprat we ve used last time she had this issues, no problems at all. Worked just fine. But he also gave us Laxatone to help with the hairballs to pass, but the day after i gave her the first dose, she had terrible diarrhea and has had it since, for two days now. Its bad enough she can t make it to the litter box (though she tries) and it gets on walls and all over the floor. I ve been cleaning up liquid cat poop the last two days and I know shes uncomfortable and seeing as its christmas eve, theres no way to call my vet. Any idea to help relieve this till I can get in?!

Answer:
Jack: Laxatone is a laxative for cats, and it may very well give her diarrhea. Stop giving it, and call the vet Saturday morning. Get her some yogurt with active cultures (read the label) and give her a spoon or two of that. If she gets really dehydrated though (look up checking for dehydration) you will be taking her to the vet tomorrow as that's really bad. But give her canned food only to help with hydration, and make sure she's eating and drinking.
