Tips for traveling with kitten

Tips for traveling with my kitten? We're going from Plymouth, Michigan to Virginia. We have some family who is renting a lake house for about a month. We'll stay with them from 10 days to a month.

We haven't got her yet (We have it set up to get her sometime June... It's very complicated... It's set up with our shelter and we're on a waiting list for a kitten. But we can't get one until this spring...) Anyways that is probably really confusing.

We're getting a kitten in June. We're leaving in july so she'll be around 12 weeks old. She'll be riding in a wire crate at my teenager's feet. How do we let her go to the bathroom in the car?

What should we do to make her comfortable?

On the highway is it okay if she sits on my daughter's lap she's 13? Before we go we'll make sure she's accustomed to riding in the car.

Should she be allowed to go outside on a leash if she's going to be an indoor cat? All general and detailed information would be greatly appreciated.

Leave the cat in the cage while driving. Not safe for your kitten to be on laps/out of the cage.
If you get out of the car, it'd be a good idea to put her on a leash and let her out when you are.

I took my two cats from PA to FL. We left each of them in their crates the majority of the drive, and when we pulled over every 3-4 hours, we would clean out the crates (they pooped in there).

If you're able to, drive around with your kitten before you leave for your big trip. For the first 1-2 hours of our trek, the cats would.not.stop.crying.

The kitten might make your drive miserable or they might love it. My girlfriends cat LOVED riding in the car as a kitten.

She would crawl around everywhere exploring and would just stare out the back window. Totally loved the car.

My mom's cats nonstop meow like their gonna die and flip the hell out.... So it really depends on the cat. I think the younger the cat is the more willing the cat will be to explore.

Hopefully you mean a plastic kennel with a wire door. Wire grating is bad for a kitten's feet. There are these little kitty litter boxes at petsmart that are made out of recycled newspaper and you can throw away after one use, buy a few of those for the ride

Sedation. The vet can give you pills to keep her knocked out. This was best for my Dinka, we had a 12 hour drive. A water dish and food dish and make stops for her litterbox use too. (Although I don't recall him needing it, he just slept.)
