Because they can NOT stay healthy and live on non meat foods! If you
are thinking about trying to have a vegan animal you need to get a
different species than an OBLIGATE carnivore.
Obligate means they are
obligated to eat meat. It is absolute abuse forcing a cat to not have
meat and anyone who does should be charged with starvation and torture
of the animal.
Many animal can survive on non meat based diets such as
rabbits guinea pigs and I have even heard with extensive care and a lot
of research a person had a vegitarian dog (I do NOT recommend this it
was a special circumstance involving meat allergy or something similar).

Cats are obligate carnivores, do you know what that is? That means they
ONLY eat meat, and their bodies are not designed to process plant
matter. Cats cannot thrive on a plant based diet. Living and thriving
are 2 very different things. If you want a vegan pet, get a rabbit. It's
not fair to force your lifestyle on an animal who wasn't made to eat a
vegan diet.
