Is human toothpaste bad for dogs?

Our babysitter has been feeding my dog toothpaste for the last couple weeks. I'm not sure exactly how much, as she won't say, but I'm wondering if digesting toothpaste is bad.

My dog seems fine, but I don't want it to be something that ends up causing damage. I'm putting out dog treats for her to give my dog to hopefully soak up the toothpaste in his stomach.

Nikki:
Human toothpaste has salts that are bad for dogs. Adult human toothpaste is not meant to be swallowed.

Weird babysitter. How did she come up with the idea to feed toothpaste to a dog? What else is she doing that is strange, because I'm sure there's something?

Jack:
Fluoride is not mean to be ingested, and can be toxic. What is wrong with your babysitter? You have more problems than just her feeding toothpaste to the dog. What other stupid things is she doing that you don't know about?

Anonymous:
It's certainly not good for them and could be harmful. I would phone your vet and discuss with them.

I don't think I'd be comfortable leaving someone stupid enough to feed toothpaste to a dog in charge of children. What might she decide to feed THEM? Certainly lacking in good judgment. Food for thought.

Casey:
yes, human toothpaste contains fluoride and it's toxic. You don't see damage now but you will if she keeps it up long term, teller her to knock it off or she's fired.

Lakelady:
What?? Is she 'challenged'? No, the toothpaste won't hurt your dog.
