Why is my dogs anal gland discharge so dark and runny?

Ask: Okay he is going to the vet Monday. So please don't tell me to take him.
I was just wondering if anyone knows why his anal gland discharge changed from a thick, STINKY, different color discharge to this real runny stuff that I swear smells JUST like vinegar.

Billy is an over weight Beagle. I had back surgery and he gained 8 lbs on top of the 6 lb he needed to lose. Anyway he does not have an abscess. His butt looks normal as can be.

But he is overly anxiously wanting to scratch his tail constantly.
He doesn't do the scooting on the floor thing. He never has.
I know how to express his anal glands and things have changed. Oh yeah he's itchy too. I think his allergies have started up but why would his butt be driving him so crazy?

Sounds like an infection. My Vet warned me about expressing anal glands for fear I would cause an infection.
Without doing lab work this is probably impossible to diagnose.

Try changing his food. I feed taste of the wild salmon and a homemade meat and veges mix.
You can try adding cooked plain oatmeal to his food for a bulkier stool that will hopefully help express his glands when he poops.

Kyle:
it could be a number of things. just wait and see what the vets say on Monday.
with out actually us seeing if, it's hard to say, and if no one here is a professional vet, like me, we could give you wrong answers.
good luck.
