Letting my dog walk herself?

Ask: My Jack russell normally gets wlaked off lead as she is very attentive and listens no matter what. She will not cross a road without another person being with her etc.

Whenever she has escaped in the past, she has turned up at our front door not long after she gets out. she knows exactly what the walk route is and follows it by herself.

Would it be a good idea to stat letting her out?

Answer

Jo:
No. I guess you think yourself above this little law that has been in place for a number of years it's called the LEASH LAW, maybe you've heard of it , it is only NATION WIDE.

You need to actually leash your mutt and walk her, if not she could be picked up by animal control and you have to bail her out and have to pay the well deserved fine for letting her roam at large or a much larger and vicious dog could decide to make a snack out of her, your choice.

If you're that lazy, re-home her with somebody that has an IQ over 40, such as somebody having one a lot closer to 100, but you wouldn't know that since yours is not even close to that.

Add: your "update" is a lame @ss cop out for not being a RESPONSIBLE pet owner. You don't deserve to have a dog except for a STUFFED TOY DOG, if you can't be bothered to obey the leash law!

Star-Of-Darkness:
Ac will fine you for having the dog off leash and no matter how trained you think the dog is, it WILL run into the street and be ran over and there's nothing you can do since you didn't have the dog on a leash.

It will be attacked by another dog and there's nothing you can do since its off leash
It will chase after and kill or attack someone's pet and you will be sued and the dog likely put down since it was off leash

"She is very good at handling agressive dogs and she normally wins confrontations or runs away, i dont need to worry about that."

So your dog is agressive and you Allow it to attack other dogs. Enjoy being sued

CDog:
No. Despite her intelligence and loyalty, there are leash laws, and the possibility of her getting hurt by another dog or car (say there is a squirrel on the other side of the street) is very real. You need to go with her.

Dorothy:
Dogs die when their owner thinks that it is safe to allow them to walk off lead.
If she has escaped in the past, this proves my point.

I have had well trained dogs forever, however I love them too much to allow them off lead unless it's in a safe fenced field.
