Found a cat!?

I found a little cat (can t tell if it s a girl or boy) in the snow a couple of hours ago and I decided to keep it. I have no idea how to care for it. I have purchased him/her a bed, bowl, and other necessities. Can anybody give me a few pointers on how to provide and care for it? And some cat names would be nice!

STCabbie:
Go to the vet first. This cat could be microchipped, and might have a desperately worried family looking for it.

The cat needs to go to the vet anyway to be checked over and have it's general health assessed - this cat could have any kind of medical issue, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Before adopting it, please ask around to see if anyone has reported a missing cat.

If the cat has no owner and you decide to keep it, all it really needs is somewhere warm and cozy to lie, some toys to occupy itself with, a constant water supply and food.

My cats get two meals of wet food (in pouches) a day, and there's always a small amount of dry biscuits left out in case they're still hungry.

Be careful to not feed your cat too much wet food as it leads to and contributes to serious medical problems, and they also need the protein from meat.

You'll need at least two litter trays which should be cleaned out at least twice a day.

Cats are fairly independent, so if you have all of the necessities, you should manage fine.

Thanks for caring. You should choose the name since you found each other with you being the rescuer.

You don't need a bed, you do need a litter box and litter.

The best thing to provide is canned foods no gravy or sauce. cats like to eat small meals throughout the day so half a can at a time is nice and your cat can eat as much as he/she wants if you feed this type of diet.

The rest you will learn as you go along. Toys include strings and little light balls and cats also like bags. search out cat tails so you see what the different positions mean

Thanks again and good luck

The first thing you need to do is take it to a vet and see if it's been microchipped. If it's been microchipped, it belongs to somebody else.

If not and it's definitely a stray, get the cat vaccinated and potentially desexed. In terms of care, feed it two proper meals a day (i.e. wet food), keep dry food and water available all the time, clean out the litter tray at least twice a day, and make sure you give it lots of attention and love :)

Zoe:
it's honestly pretty easy to care for a cat, feed it and provide fresh water daily, clean it's litter box daily or every few days.

Cats enjoy attention and being petted (most of them anyways.) playing with them is also fun, take some yarn and drag it along the floor, they enjoy that. also some gender cat names can be turnips, Charlie, pancake, lol hope that helps

Ivy:
you have to get the cat vaccinated and get it legally adopted.
