Is this how pet adoption works?

Ask: This guy I went on ONE date with is obsessed with me even after I told him my boyfriend and I got back together. He asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told him a cat. Yesterday, he told me he got me a cat, but it's coming from Indiana next week.

I asked him what website he went to and told me Petfinder.com I really don't believe him, but can he be serious? If so, I need to prepare. I don't like the guy, but I don't think he's responsible enough to take care of a cat. But I also don't want to buy a bunch of stuff for the cat and then it turns out he lied to me because then I'll be really pissed. Thank you :)

Update: He said it is a kitten
Update 2: Ok, but do these cat/animal shelter sometimes mail their animals across the state? My first guess is that they don't but could I be wrong?
Answer:
Meow: When you adopt an animal from a shelter YOU are the person the animal has to stay with. You can not give it away as a gift.

So if he really did adopt a cat or kitten there and intends to bring it to you he is violating his contract with the shelter. If this cat gets out and is picked up and its chip scanned it'll go back to that shelter and both you AND he will be banned from EVER adopting from that shelter or any other shelter around.

Why would you even tell someone you don't even like what you want for Christmas? And you really that greedy and selfish and shallow?

edit: No. A shelter would never ship an animal to someone. In certain cases they may allow interstate transport if this is an animal that would have otherwise been euthanized and you're a REALLY great choice for adopting. But someone can't just adopt a cat then have it shipped to someone else like they're buying it on Amazon.

Elaine: I don't think Petfinder puts together a delivery program. All it does is host photos from various rescues. On the off chance he did get you a cat locally, have a litter box and food ready.
Terry: I'd ask him for contact info for the people he's buying it from so you could ask questions about him/her.
