Ask: Dog is trained to bark and find someone in the event I collapse to the floor (thoughIamnotdisabled) wou... the dog be considered a service dog?

Answer

Meow:
If you're not disabled why are you going to collapse and fall to the floor?

And what professional organization trained your dog?

A person has to have a legitimate disability and a TRAINED dog for it to be a Service Dog.

I'm sure you're just yet another person just wanting to lie and abuse the Americans With Disabilities Act, aren't you?

Only if you had the CNM (certificate of medical necessity) and the dog was able to pass the on line test posted by the ADA, temperament testing and was able to perform another task that would help the handicapped person or person with a need or disability.

You do not have to be disabled in order to have a service dog, you do have to have a medical necessity such as seizures, inability to keep balance walking, feinting problem (sounds like what you have or blackout) or some our medical need that the aid of a service dog would help mitigate the handlers independence and safety.

Any dog could become a service dog as long as it was properly trained, passed the temperament testing, was able to be handled by another person and obedient to them also, able to go in public without being distracted, guarding or going after people, other animals or being disruptive.

I have seen many people trying to pass ear dogs off as a service dog, but the dogs were unable to perform any required tasks, nor ere they able to be in a busy crowded place with people or other animals without bring reactive.

I remember watching one handlers dog surfing the food table at a buffet one time, the handler just chuckled and said it was the dogs favorite type of meat.

This is why it's getting harder and harder for people get need these well trained dogs to go out in public with them.

Some of he people that train their own dogs neglect to socialize them, the dogs bark, bite, growl, jump up on, snatch food from tables, defecate or urinate in a public building etc.

You do not have to be handicapped or totally disabled (which confuses most people) such as wheelchair or bed bound in order to have a service dog, you do have to have a medical need that a dog can assist you in your mobility, protection (such as from a fall or unconsciousness) alerting to seizures, low blood sugars, alerting to noises for the deaf or low hearing, etc.

Mary: I don't know. The 'service dogs' I see in stores and other places wear a vest that designates them as 'service dogs.' Does your pooch have such a vest?

Frankly, I don't care if folks bring dogs into a store/other place and they are not actually trained service dogs. I am a dog lover. Dogs are the best!

Achelious: If you are not disabled, then you are not eligible for a Service Dog

this means that your dog is not a service dog when the dog is with you

I have a properly trained Service Dog. He is only given legal access when he is with me. If my Mom takes him somewhere, he is not a service dog because he is not her service dog. His training mitigates my disabling conditions... he is not trained to mitigate anything for her

Knight: Only if it was trained by a specific agency for a specific job to mitigate your DISABILITY, otherwise it's nothing more than a pet, with the same restrictions as any other pet.
