Do you allow your dog to come into the house when there is company?

Ask: Do you allow your dog to come into the house when there is company?

Answer

Allyson:
Depends on who's coming over. If it's family then she's in the house with us but if it's the cable guy, or some worker coming in then she goes in her crate and may or may not eventually come out. I had the geek squad come in and install my tv and stand.

She went into the crate and later came out while they were still inside the house. They actually played with her most of the time of the installation lol.

But my cousins leave their dog outside when there's company and even when it just them, ridiculous. He never came inside the house. And when the weather turns bad he's goes in the garage.

They later surrendered the dog to the pound saying they found him in the street when they've had him for 6 years! Poor thing, he was never showered and was covered in ticks and fleas! They also purchased 3 puppies and they all died! They are so terrible with dogs.

Sara:
My dogs have all been indoor dogs. Unless you have an actual working livestock guard dog, I don't see the point in having outdoor dogs. I used to have a Heeler mix that was rescued from an abusive home, and when certain people came over, she would be crated.

She was incredibly protective of young children and cats (for some reason). There was one incident where she didn't want to let a parent leave with their child, so after that, if my friends with kids came over, she was put up.

Anyone who comes to my house knows what pets I have and that they were there first. The only exception to that rule is when our handy man comes to work because one of his workers won't come in the house if my snake is there.

When we have work done, she goes to my brother in law's for a few hours.

Bella:
Yes. She and my parents dog aren't kept as outdoor dogs. They have access to the backyard when we are home and always prefer the indoors over the outdoors unless they want to sun themselves in the cool winter mornings or when we are out in the backyard also. They essentially want to be where we are.

(Sorry, didn't see the company bit)
They take to company fine when it's the regulars, my dog is particular will be your best friend the moment you come into the doors.

My parents dog however is different, he's pretty aloof and keeps his distance so when someone new visits he's put outside or in another room and isn't brought out unless the visitor would like to meet him.

Raven:
Depends.
My b*tch is my obedience trial dog, and as such she has a strong obedience and aloof with strangers.
There is probably only one person outside of the family who I've ever seen her affectionate with- and I reckon that had more to do with the scent of entire male dog all over him (his own dog was an entire male).

People she is usually 'good' around are not allowed into the house without out permission. A friend made the mistake of trying to enter the house while we were out, and she chased them off again.
20 mins later we let her in as we came back home, and the dog was happy to be pet by this person.

Only person I can't allow her around is our neighbour. He has, on multiple occasions, taunted our dogs, thrown things at them and came to our house and threatened us.
Last time he came over, the second I opened the door my b*tch was barking at him and wouldn't let him in.
Sent him running a mile xD

Jojo:
That all depends on who the visitor is.
If they are regular friends then the dogs can come in if they want to.

If the caller is a stranger or someone who annoys me by wanting to fuss the dogs all the time then they stay out in their utility room and yard.

My dogs are 100% around people but are not encouraged to mix with strangers who are on my premises as I live very isolated and need my dogs to be aloof with all strangers most of the time which thankfully comes natural to their breed. Once I let someone in my house, the dogs would accept them though. They are well socialised and not aggressive to humans and are very obedient.
