kitten stopped using the litter box

We got our kitten when he was four months old. We kept him, his litterbox and his food in bedroom for the first two weeks to help him adjust.

He used the litterbox until we moved it out of the bedroom! Now he just does the bedroom, on the floor. We have put him in the litterbox plenty of times to show him where it is. How do I get hih to start using the litterbox again?

Answer

Ocimom:
Put it back in the bedroom for now. WHERE did you put it after you moved it? If its in an area where the kitten feels like he's not safe, he will choose another spot.

Put a 2nd litter pan out in the house in the spot you may want him to use. I would also get Kitten Attract litter and use that for awhile. Kittens and cats should have more then one litter pan (2 would be better) in different spots.

Bridey:
put the box back I the bedroom and then after he is consistently using it, move it about a foot a day to the new location. He will continue to use box as it moves,
you should have 2 boxes for 1 cat anyway

Miss:
Put some thing else in the place where you used to keep the litter box in room. So he will be confused. And when he is trying to do keep him in the litter box. Keep some of his pee over in the box. He will identify the smell and start doing there.

Jack:
Put it back where it was, and move it gradually, just a few feet at a time. And now that he is older, he may be more fussy with the condition of his box. Is it scooped faithfully twice a day? If not, do that in addition to putting it back where it was and then the gradual move.

Clean the area under the box with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle (pet store, Walmart). Get the gallon size. Soak the area that the box was in. Allow to dry for 2-3 days then soak again. The trick to these things is to use enough - like I said, soak it.
