How to get my dogs to stop arguing/attacking each other?

I recently got a new dog within the last month and him and my other dog got along great and they still do most of the time but every once and a while my older dog will "attack" the younger one. When my older dog starts to go at the other we tell him to stop and hold him for a second but then the younger dog starts agitating and instigating the older one by barking and jumping around like he wants to play but my older dog gets more mad.

What I suggest is when the older dog attacks the younger, put him on his side, lying down. That's a sign of submission and then keep him that way and let the younger one do whatever he wants. The puppy is still a puppy so he's gonna be jumpy around him most of the time but the older dog needs to learn not to react.

Let it be. Unless the older one is drawing blood or injuring the younger one then let them work it out for themselves. Read a book called "The Social Lives of Dogs" by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas. It's very enlightening regarding dog behavior. Essentially what it boils down to is the dogs establish a pecking order outside of human control. The more humans try to control it, the longer the process takes and the more apt they are to have a real fight instead of figuring it out on their own.
