Why does this pit bull look this way?

Ask: There is a breeder who is breeding pit bulls with this awful conformation, so why?

Why would someone take a breed and drastically change the conformation by selective breeding especially to a horrible conformation that will no doubt result in a multitude of health problems?

I hope that this Christmas, everyone looking for a puppy, does research on breed standards and chooses a puppy from a breeder of conformation ally correct healthy puppies, or better yet, rescues a puppy from a shelter and even better, rescue an older dog from a shelter.

Answer:
Knight: Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog. It's not a breed. Formal breeds often considered in North America to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Bulldog and the Bull Terrier (standard and miniature) are also sometimes included.

Verulam: That's a well known photo of a crippled dog, and probably photo-shoped in any case. Produced to bring exactly what is has by putting in on here.

It's not, I'd suggest a pit bull, even before the photo was doctored!!
I can't disagree with you re people doing their homework and only buying from a known reputable breeder however.

Collie: As far as I'm aware, that is NOT a pit bull in any sense. But one of those hippo mongrel "American Bully" dogs. An insult to the American Pit Bull Terrier breed.
I cannot understand the appeal to these poor mutant animals. Looks like he can barely move.

Dutch: It is the most prominent of human flaws concerning dogs. People are obsessed with the "look" of almost every breed. Pit Bulls are so popular, they are an obvious target for abusive breeding. Unfortunately, some of the worst abusers are the show people....and they are revered as some kind of foundation of knowledge....and are absolutely the largest source of breeding propaganda. Testing...and knowing HOW to breed, has nothing to do with WHY to breed.

Misunderstanding of the term "show quality" has confused people for years. "Show" has no relationship to "good"...it simply means it is the desired look for the show ring. Obviously, that Pit couldn't win a fight against a Cocker Spaniel. The very first consideration for a Pit Bull breeder SHOULD be, "how many fights has it won". Everything else is secondary.

Narissa: Oh my god. That's a frog...
For real though, that is not a pitbull, that is a genetic disaster that would not be shown or qualified ANYWHERE as or for an APBT. These poor mutants are mostly desired by men with tiny ***** who want the stockiest buffest dog they can find in hopes to compensate for their ''short comings''.

Dachsie: I think it's a photoshopped picture. The dog itself is not a pitbull. If anything, it was one of those "American BullieS", before the photo was changed. A dog built like that could never get around naturally or breed naturally.

Its important to locate a reputable breeder of whatever breed your considering. you start at the national breed club, find a local breed club and do your homework on the breed and it genetic problems and recommended testing that should be done before breeding.

Nobby: Because these idiots cannot actually assess conformation, or condition. They dont care if the dog is fit for purpose, they only care if it looks cool, or cute.

Most people have the same lack of skill. Thats why people walking their racing fit Greyhound get well meaning idiots shouting at them that they are starving their dog, its why GSD's in my country win shows with hare feet and cow hocks, and its why most Bull breed dogs have awful flat, splayed feet to go along with their appalling health problems.

Personally I think it looks like a taxidermy coffee table, and its the only purpose its fit for.
