For those looking to shed a few pounds as summer approaches, this story about a jumbo-sized dachshund that trimmed away 17 pounds with a little help from a dog rescue organization in Houston just might inspire you.
Appropriately named, “Fat Vincent” tipped the scales at a plump 38 pounds eight months ago, CNN reported. Vincent could barely walk and had developed high cholesterol.
The 7-year-old dachshund was also depressed after being dumped at a county animal shelter following his owner’s death, according to the report.
That’s when K-9 Angels Rescue took him in and turned his life around.
“He was friendly, but I could barely discern between his laying down and standing up positions; with his short little legs, there was very little clearance between the floor and his chest and abdomen,” his veterinarian Sharon Anderson told CNN.
With the help of water aerobics and walks, Vincent trimmed down to 17 pounds and is almost ready for his forever home.
He just has another pound and a half more to lose before reaching his goal weight, according to CNN.
