A new Facebook page dedicated to Millie, the Labrador retriever who was found left for dead at the bottom of dumpster nearly two weeks ago, tells the dog’s heart-warming recovery story.
According the page, “Millie the Dumpster Dog,” the lab is being fostered by a woman named Holly, who is following up with veterinary care, treats and lots of nurturing care for the animal in need.
Lucky Lab Rescue, a rescue organization, worked with San Antonio Animal Care Services to place Millie in a home after she was found at the bottom of dumpster off Tampico Street and Sandy Court on April 20, according to the page.
The dog, who had a collar but did not have a microchip, was found under bags of waste, was covered in flies and suffering from heat stroke when she was discovered, according to a previous mySA.com report.
Updates on the Facebook page show Millie’s healing process.
The rescued dog’s vetting process continues while in foster care. Vets have found she is seven to eight years old and are treating her for heart worms, according to posts on the page’s timeline.
A page on the crowdfunding site, YouCaring, has been created in Millie’s name in order to raise funds to “fight heart worm.” As of May 2, $918 of the $2,000 goal was raised for her treatments.
“Why I do what I do for dogs…10 days ago, she was pulled out of a dumpster who was left to die by mankind, who knows what she went through before that,” Millie’s foster owner said in a post. “Today, she crawls up on the couch to be held, pet, and loved by me, who took her in only 2 days ago and showed her love and compassion.”
The page is filled with photos chronicling Millie’s second chance at life.
“Tail is not curled between her legs in fear anymore, not wagging quite yet but it’s up,” the page said. “Millie is a big sweetheart and we will get her healthy.” (mysanantonio)
