I have 4 small dogs. 2 Pekingese/Dachshunds and 2 Morkies (Yorkie/Maltese). Out of all of the small dogs, Maybe a Corgi or Dachshund. Both have long bodies and short legs, which make them so cute. All designer breeds are cross breeds, not mutts. Mutts are more than 2 breeds their mixed with, cross breeds are just 2 different breeds and nothing else. Just adopt a small dog from a shelter.
Ocimom:
Only ones I really like are Cairn Terriers (under 20 lbs) or Miniature Poodles.
The designer dogs are MUTTS - not breeds and come with a lot of genetic problems. Bred by BYB and puppy mills, they should be the last thing you'd want to own.
Smalldog:
I have 2 crossbreed dogs and they are gorgeous! Pug x shnauzer and a cairn terrier cross shihtzu. They are about 10 inches high and are small and cuddly. Proper little lap dogs.
I personally like toy poodles, cairn terriers, and the Norwich/Norfolk terriers. I would love to own a Sealyham terrier but they are quite a rare breed now, not many breeders in the uk.
Tierna:
I have a very soft spot for Pomeranians. When I was younger, I had the sweetest little Pomeranian named Gizmo. Grooming is definitely essential with this breed, because of their long fur, but it's so worth it! They're absolutely gorgeous! They have so much spunk and character, but can turn around and be the best cuddle bugs. However, my mother likes Boston Terriers and Pugs because of their "little scrunched up noses." It's all about what you like. I'd suggest looking at the nearest shelter to get an idea and who knows? Maybe you'll find your new best frien there!
Patty:
At the present time I own a Puggle. (Pugg + Beagle = Puggle). He is the first small dog I have ever owned. Had Labrador Retrievers all my life.
He is about 20 pounds, a bit over weight. The grooming on him is minimal. I have never had to even clip his nails. He keeps them short, he does a lot of sidewalk walking. As long as I give him a good dog food, I do not have to clean his ears, they are spotless.
With specialty mixes, each dog in a litter can look and act different, especially since it is a newer mix. He has the face of a Beagle and chest of a Pugg.
His short hair never needs to be cut, but constantly sheds.
I have found him to be is very independent, stubborn and persistent. He don't give up.
He is VERY possessive when it comes to me.
Then again each dog is individual in their own ways.
One added bonus with a mixed breed, is that they are less acceptable to certain hereditary diseases. I could go on all day, love him so much
Kunal:
Pomeranians are very great! Though my first dog was a poodle/bichon mix named Jasmine... My second dog came three months after the first and he is maltese, named Coco. We got them seven years ago, they are 7 now. We are also fostering a male maltese named Troy... But my favorite small breeds are Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, American eskimos, papillons, yorkies, min.poodles, min.pins, jack russels, beaglesbassetHound, shitzu, skhipperke, dachshund, corgis, staffordshires.
